Affordable Training Analysis And Supervision For Equity And Diversity

Dear SFCP Community –

We are writing to let you know that SFCP is piloting the Affordable Training Analysis and Supervision Program for Equity and Diversity to lower costs of analytic training for BIPOC candidates and candidates with financial need. The goal is to make psychoanalytic training more affordable and accessible to individuals affected by systemic race-based or class-based inequities which have previously served as barriers to pursuing analytic training to ensure the diversity, vitality and relevance of psychoanalysis at SFCP and to the wider community.

In accordance with the January 2023 ratification vote by all analyst and candidate members (based on majority-supported initiatives in the All-Member Survey on Diversity & Accessibility in Analytic Training – Fall 2022), several initiatives aimed at increasing diversity and accessibility in training were approved. These included changing the minimum required frequency for supervised control cases and for candidates’ personal training analyses to 3- 5x/week, as well as establishing training grants, and providing “ultra-low fee” analysis and supervision for BIPOC candidates and candidates with financial need.

In the Affordable Training Analysis and Supervision Program for Equity and Diversity, we have changed the name from “ultra-low fee” to “affordable” analysis and supervision and have asked Training Analysts (TAs) to offer one affordable training analysis (less than $100 per session) and Supervising Analysts (SAs) to offer one affordable supervision ($25 or less) to a BIPOC candidate or a candidate with financial need. SAs and TAs who do not have an affordable training analysis or supervision are asked to donate the fund for Candidate Training Grants upon renewal of their membership. (More information about Candidate Training Grants coming soon!)

Training and Supervising Analysts who are available to offer affordable training analysis or supervision will be listed on the SFCP Website in the Directory of Training and Supervising Analysts. For current candidates, this information will also be available on the Analytic Training Program Webpage.

See here for a full description of the Affordable Training Analysis and Supervision for Equity and Diversity program.

Please reach out to any of us if you have any questions.

Sincerely,
Beth Steinberg, PED Chair

Holly Gordon, Supervising Analyst Committee Chair
